Can’t beat FREE!

The power was out this morning at my house. We had another round of thunderstorms last night. I took a shower in the dark and then decided to go over to my daughter’s house to finish getting ready for work.

When I turned the corner at the end of my street, I caught a glimpse of something in the neighbor’s trash. Couldn’t really see what it was but it looked interesting so I backed up to take a closer look.

I’ve never been too proud to go trash picking or dumpster diving. Sometimes people toss out some really cool things! When I got out of the car I practically ran over to the trash cans! I really couldn’t believe what was there!

Don’t ya know I put these babies in my trunk right away!!

can't beat free 005 can't beat free 008 can't beat free 010

They were still wet from all of the rain last night. I can’t believe they sat there ALL night and no one else grabbed them! I’m doing the happy dance right now! What a find!

When I was coming home from my daughter’s house I noticed that the trash men had come by and taken the “trash.” I’m sure glad I got there first!!

I'm on a thrify/garage sale diet so this was really a good deal for me! Check out all of the other finds at Rhoda's too!

  16. Peaking at your blog this AM and I have to say you really scored doing what I call dumpster diving. I wonder why someone would put those items in the trash? Well, lucky you. I know I would be doing the happy dance at the curb for sure. My husband thinks I am totally insane when I say Stop The Car! He knows I am going into a trash can for sure:) Thanks for sharing your finds with me. I will visit again.

  17. Thanks Kathi! You were my very first post!! AND you pointed me to your blog......yet another wonderful thing for me to read everyday! I have a niece who lives in Birmingham. Small world.......... I love your picture at the top and your music! Could it be that you are a "Keys lover" like my family?

I can't get my profile to post on some blogs. It keeps telling me that "something" can't be verified! Oh well....I'll just be anonymous

  18. Thanks Kathi for visiting my place. You did really well. My family is pretty tired of my street pickups but I've done well on 2 of them. I'm hiding a few of the other ones in the garage.

I take my little camera everywhere and regret every picture I don't take. Some folks are suspicious about me wandering around with a camera. A security guard stopped me in downtown Atlanta - I was taking pictures of (an interesting) parking lot! Birmingham is, to me, a very interesting city: industry, geography, and people.

  20. Gotta love free!! And you really scored, those treasures are beautiful. Can't wait to see what you do with them. I've been known to curb side shop especially when the city does a city wide clean up......much to my children's embarrassment :)

  28. Wow, you were lucky. The only thing we saw on the streets of Paris to "take home" were a sink and several toliettes! Oh, and I forgot, an air conditioner.HA Thanks for stopping by my blogs. I'm home and have had a decent night's sleep so I guess I'm officially back to the "real" world!

  33. By the way, I could relate to your shopaholic post. I have so many items I have picked up for a steal but I have many more items sitting at home waiting for me to do something with them!!! :( I was thinking tonight as I finally was spray painting chairs that I've had for YEARS that I need to put a moratorium on my thrift shopping till I complete some projects.

  34. That is so awesome! Love trash to treasure...

Curbside shopping is my fave thing in the world currently! ;)
Yknow, you should be proud! You're being GREEN!! Those things that we pick up in the trash wouldn't added more landfill! You're saving the planet while being totally selfish at the same time, teeehee!!
I love those finds of yours!
